Team 17 approached us about turning a sketched concept into a dynamic key art for the launch of the super cool Escapists 2. The 8 bit style of the game meant we needed to find a treatment for the characters and environment that captured the retro look and feel, but was also bursting with energy, colour and fun.
Starting with mood boards and rough models we developed a style for the escaping prisoners and pursuing guards that captured full pelt running poses in a gingerbread style 3D model. The environment is deliberately chunky with nods to blocky pixels and the powerful search light punch our prisoners forwards, running headlong to freedom.
